Barcelona is once again topping the Spanish League, La Liga ahead of everyone else with 37 points claimed and 12 victories out of 13 so far. The Champions League is the same story as they remain undefeated in both tournaments although things might just begin to take a turn for the worst.
The star player of Barcelona Lionel Messi is already confirmed to be injured and not able to play for the remainder of the season in a month that the Argentine will want to forget as he has been facing a dry run of goals and a significant drop in performances during these past few months.
His drop of form has been so noticeable that C.Ronaldo is the favorite on claiming the FIFA Ballon d’Or on January who is enjoying a stellar season with Real Madrid.
Xavi Hernandez is another player that recently picked up an injury and his recovery is still uncertain.
Barcelona’s official website stated:
The club’s medical services have revealed that Xavi Hernandes has a thigh strain in his left leg and over the last few training sessions has been given specific work to help his recovery, which will determine his availability for Saturday’s game against Granada.
This means that the Catalan club might miss out from their 2 most creative and key players for Tata Martino in what is a busy stage of this season, although they should still be able to cope without having Messi or Xavi available as they have a vast amount of players ready to fill in the spots.
Manchester United have shown interest in signing Andres Iniesta but that might just be a little too far-fetched for the English club as the Spanish midfielder is close on extending his current contract with Barcelona.
“We are close to agreeing a new contract with Iniesta,” sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta told Radio Catalunya.
“I think it could happen before Christmas.”
