Former Barcelona forward David Villa has joined up with the Vissel Kobe squad for the first time as the club continued their preparations for the new season. He was greeted by a few familiar faces as he walked onto the training pitch.
Vissel Kobe now boasts one of the strongest squad in the Japanese League and other teams will definitely feel threatened by their spending power.
Podolski posted pictures of the trio on Twitter with the caption, “One team, three world champions”.
The German is definitely not wrong with the Spanish duo of Iniesta and Villa having lifted the World Cup trophy in 2010. Iniesta grabbed the winning goal on the night to help his team past Holland to the much-coveted trophy.
Podolski, on the other hand, was a member of the German squad that lifted the trophy four years later in Brazil. He was very instrumental for Germany on their journey to the title.
Villa and Iniesta were a part of the Barcelona side that defeated Manchester United at Wembley in 2011 UEFA Champions League final, the former scoring the final goal in a 3-1 victory over the English giants.
With the pre-season having just began, Vissel Kobe fans will be hoping the wealth of experience in their ranks will translate to success on the football pitch.
I expect David Villa to hit the ground running following his move to Japan but the fans will have to give him all their support as the Spaniard adapts to a new life in a new country.
Vissel Kobe will commence their pre-season tour of United States, with a fixture against Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew on January 29.
