Spain international Jordi Alba has committed his long-term future to Barcelona by signing a fresh five-year extension. The left-back’s previous deal with the Blaugrana was due to expire at the end of the campaign and this had recently linked him with the likes of Juventus and Manchester United ahead of the summer.
Alba had been in splendid form for the Catalan giants during the ongoing campaign and he has already contributed 14 assists and two goals from the left side of the defence. As such, it was pretty much a no-brainer to reward him with a contract extension and the defender should now completely concentrate on the season ahead rather than worrying about his future.
Barcelona have looked comfortable in the Spanish La Liga despite a stop-start season and they are currently holding a seven-point gap over Atletico Madrid at the top of the standings. Elsewhere, they have progressed to the sixth successive Copa del Rey final after beating Real Madrid 4-2 across two legs and they look on course for a fifth straight title in the competition.
Meanwhile, their Champions League campaign remains tricky after the 0-0 draw against Lyon during the away leg of the round of 16. Nonetheless, they should back themselves to overcome the French outfit with the kind of form displayed at the Camp Nou over the years.
