La Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Champions League are all of the titles that Thomas Vermaelen has credited to his name as he was part of the Barcelona team that won all of these pieces of silverware but the Belgian defender only made 2 appearances during the season when Spanish club secured all of these titles and didn’t really play any important role.
Vermaelen could only make 2 appearances in his debut season for Barcelona and this was due to injuries but he is now fully recovered and recently overcame all of his injury problems, the veteran defender wants to win more titles with Barcelona but this time around he wants to play consistently with his team and play a huge role instead of having to sit out and settle with a place on the sidelines like he did in the previous season.
Barcelona’s Vermaelen said: “I got a medal, but you don’t feel like you have won the treble. I was very happy for the team, but it’s not like I contributed a lot for the cups we won. I am very happy and very pleased to be back. There’s nothing better than to feel fit. Last year was terrible. It was a nasty injury, a very difficult one and I am very happy that the feeling in the legs is perfect again, like it should be. I feel 100% now. We just started pre-season so I am adapting still but I had 60 minutes against a good opponent so I am very pleased with that.”
For the past few years, Barcelona has been going through a dominating era as the Spanish club has won all the major titles in the world of football and have not shown any signs of slowing down but despite all of this dominance there is an area which in the team which has received criticism and its concerning their defensive department.
